Asthma sufferers would be disappointed at the Government's refusal to take
urgent action to set up a clinic using Dr James' treatment, said the Member
for Corrimal, Mr L. B. Kelly.
He said: "Asthma sufferers on the South Coast will be particularly disturbed
that the Liberal Member for Wollongong, Mr Hough, saw fit to ignore public opinion
and vote against Dr James.
"The Government's action denying asthma sufferers access to Dr James' methods,
is nothing short of criminal. Every day's delay increases the possibility that
his proven treatment will be lost forever to the thousands of asthma sufferers
now and in the future."
Mr Kelly was speaking to a defeated motion submitted by the Member for Canterbury,
Mr K. J. Stewart, who is the Opposition's "shadow" Health Minister.
The full text of Mr Stewart's motion was:
"Dr James, who is 88 years of age, was admitted to Wollongong last Saturday
and has been ordered by his doctor to rest.
It is urgent that steps should be taken by the Government through the New South
Wales Department of Public Health to document and study Dr James' methods before
it is too late.
In view of the action by the Canberra Hospital, it is logical to assume that
the Federal Government has ceased its procrastination in the matter and is prepared
to act.
It is imperative that the Government of New South Wales should likewise cease
its procrastination in this important and health-giving matter.
This is National Health Week and it is opportune for the House and the Minister
for Health to take a positive step in regard to public health."
