Introduction

Russian doctor Alexander James (Jemchoojny), born in 1882, discovered the true cause of asthma in 1920 and hence, developed the ‘James Method’ of treating asthma. His method has been used to successfully treat and, according to Dr. James, cure thousands of patients from all over the world. In 1947 he set up his practice in Wollongong, Australia.

His drug-free treatment consists of Mechanical Vibratory Stimulation therapy and breathing exercises, with a focus on correct breathing, circulation and diet. It restores normal mobility of the chest-cage and proper breathing function within days.

Dr James fought for acceptance of his system of asthma management by the medical profession. He firmly stood by his claims that drug therapy relieves symptoms only. He further argued that these palliative bronchodilator drugs ultimately have harmful consequences to the patient, and strove to promote a more realistic attitude to the treatment of asthma.

Dr James trained his daughter, Nina Marzi, and passed his method and clinic into her hands. Nina worked alongside him for 30 years and, since his death in 1976, has been carrying on the James Method the way that he taught her.
